Questions You May Have About Concrete Coatings

Concrete floor coating installation process

Thinking about getting a concrete coating for your garage, patio, or commercial space? You probably have questions. Here are the answers to the most common questions we hear from homeowners and business owners considering concrete floor coatings.

How Long Does Installation Take?

One of the best things about our concrete coating process is how quick it is. Most residential projects are completed in just one day. You can walk on the floor in 4-6 hours and park your car on it after 24 hours.

Larger commercial projects may take 2-3 days depending on the size and complexity, but we work efficiently to minimize disruption to your business.

How Long Will the Coating Last?

With proper installation and basic maintenance, our concrete coatings last for decades. We're so confident in our work that we provide a 15-year residential warranty against chipping, peeling, and delamination. We also offer a lifetime warranty for UV protection against yellowing and fading.

For commercial applications, we provide a 5-year warranty appropriate for the heavier use these floors see.

What's the Difference Between Epoxy and Polyurea?

You may have heard of epoxy garage floors, but polyurea is a newer, superior technology. Polyurea coatings are four times stronger than epoxy. They're also more flexible, which means they can expand and contract with temperature changes without cracking.

Polyurea cures faster than epoxy, which is why we can complete most jobs in one day. It's also UV stable, meaning it won't yellow or fade in sunlight - a common problem with epoxy floors. We use Penntek polyurea systems because they represent the best technology available.

Can You Coat Old or Damaged Concrete?

Yes! Most existing concrete surfaces can be coated, even if they have cracks, stains, or other damage. Before we apply any coating, we thoroughly prepare the surface:

We grind down the concrete to create a proper texture for bonding. We repair all cracks using our award-winning concrete mender that bonds tightly to crack walls and fills voids completely. We fill any holes or divots. The result is a floor that looks and performs like new.

How Do I Maintain a Coated Floor?

One of the biggest benefits of concrete coatings is how easy they are to maintain. The nonporous surface doesn't absorb stains, dirt, or bacteria. Regular sweeping and occasional mopping with a mild cleaner is all that's needed to keep your floor looking great.

No waxing, no sealing, no special treatments. Spills wipe up easily. Oil and chemicals don't penetrate the surface.

What Colors and Patterns Are Available?

We offer a wide range of options to match any style. Choose from solid colors, decorative chip patterns, metallic finishes, and custom color combinations. Whether you want a classic look or something bold and unique, we can create the perfect floor for your space.

Is the Floor Slippery When Wet?

No. Our floor coatings include a slip-resistant texture that provides grip even when wet. The decorative chips create an orange peel texture that meets and exceeds OSHA safety standards. For areas with extra slip risk (pool decks, entrances, etc.), we can add additional traction.

What About the Smell During Installation?

Our Penntek polyurea systems are low-odor and low-VOC. There's no strong chemical smell during or after installation. You can use your space comfortably as soon as the floor has cured.

How Much Does It Cost?

The cost of a concrete coating depends on several factors: the size of the area, the condition of the existing concrete, and the type of finish you choose. We provide free estimates so you know exactly what to expect before any work begins.

When considering cost, remember that a quality concrete coating lasts for decades with minimal maintenance, making it one of the best values in flooring.
